Mountain rescue in the UK
How to call for help
Call 999 or 112 and ask for Police, who coordinate mountain rescue. Give your location as a six-figure grid reference if you can.
Emergency SMS
If you have no voice signal, text 999 — but you must pre-register. Text "register" to 999 from your phone now, before you need it.
Mountain rescue is free
UK mountain rescue teams are voluntary and charity-funded. Consider a donation to your local team if they've helped you or someone near you.
